How to Franchise Your Care Business in the UK
Franchising a care business is something a lot of providers in the UK are starting to look at. Demand for care keeps rising, and if you’ve already built something that works, it’s an obvious route for growth.
But care isn’t an easy sector to scale in the same way as other businesses. Everything sits under the Care Quality Commission, so you’re not just replicating a model – you’re making sure it still stands up to inspection in every location, every time.
Processess are everything
That’s where a lot of businesses realise they’re not quite ready yet. If everything still depends on the founder, or processes live in people’s heads rather than being written down properly, franchising becomes risky. The businesses that do it well usually already have things fairly systemised – recruitment, training, day-to-day delivery, all of it.
The type of care you’re offering matters too. Domiciliary care, live-in care, residential – each one behaves differently when you try to scale it. Some are lighter operationally, some are heavily resource-dependent, and that changes how a franchise model needs to be built.
Ongoing Training and Support
Once franchisees are onboard consistency can become a challenge. It’s not enough to hand over a model and step back. You need training that actually prepares people for real-world situations. Ongoing support and some level of oversight so standards don’t drift also needs to be in place.
Franchising can absolutely work in care, and when it does, it can unlock proper growth – more reach, stronger brand presence, less pressure on the original owner. But it only really works when the foundations are solid. If not, problems tend to show up quickly.
We’ve put together a full guide that goes into all of this in more detail – what needs to be in place, what regulators expect, and how care franchising actually works in practice.
