Top Tips for Franchisee Success (for Franchisors)
The first 3 months can really determine franchisee success. But what can franchisors do to help? We’ve put together these top tips to help franchisors help their franchisees hit the ground running.
Bringing a new franchisee into your network is an exciting moment. It’s the start of a partnership where both sides are invested in making the business a success. But here’s the thing: those first few months are absolutely critical. The way you welcome, train, and support someone at the beginning can set the tone for the whole journey ahead.
1. Help franchisees get some early wins
Think back to when you started something new – nothing builds confidence quite like that first little success. It’s the same for franchisees. If they can see results quickly, it reassures them that the business model works and that they’ve made the right decision.
That doesn’t mean pushing for huge numbers straight away. Quite often it’s the small, achievable goals that make the difference. For example; landing their very first customer, running a simple local marketing campaign, or even hitting a modest revenue target. Those wins might look minor on paper, but to a brand-new franchisee, they’re proof they can do this.
The sooner they feel that momentum, the sooner they’ll believe in themselves, in you as their franchisor, and in the wider network. And that belief is what underpins long-term franchisee success.
2. Don’t let them go it alone – introduce a buddy
Even with the best training in the world, new franchisees will hit bumps in the road. And when they do, sometimes the last person they want to admit it to is you, the franchisor. That’s why giving them a peer mentor or “buddy” is so effective.
Pair them up with someone who’s been in the business for a while and knows the day-to-day realities. It gives the new franchisee someone they can call, ask the “silly” questions, and lean on when things feel tough. Just knowing there’s another person who has been through the same learning curve can take a lot of the pressure off.
The added bonus? Mentoring strengthens the sense of community in your network. It’s not just you cheering them on – it’s their peers too. That kind of support can make all the difference when it comes to long-term franchisee success.
3. Celebrate the small stuff (because it matters)
Everyone likes to feel noticed, and franchisees are no different. Recognising early achievements really boosts confidence.
Recognition can be a small, but meaningful gesture. For example, a shout-out in your newsletter, a quick mention on a team call, or a personal message congratulating them on a milestone. Some franchisors also like to post wins on social media, which not only motivates the individual but inspires others too.
The key thing is to mark progress as it happens, not wait until the “big” results arrive. When new franchisees feel valued and supported from day one, they’re more likely to stay motivated, loyal, and focused on building a successful business. And that’s what franchisee success is all about.
